When you’re small, people often joke about not frowning too much, or your face will stay that way. As silly as it sounds, that’s not too far from the truth. According to Webster’s dictionary: ‘Wrinkle. Noun. A small furrow, ridge, or crease on a normally smooth surface, caused by crumpling, folding, or shrinking.’ The part that I have to stop and think about in that sentence is: ‘normally smooth surface’. That is because it is so true! Our skin was meant to be smooth.
Your skin has a system which was meant to renew itself automatically every 15-20 days. That means shedding all the tired, dead skin cells, making new blood vessels, and forming more melanocytes cells to correctly redistribute skin coloration. This process keeps your skin soft, refreshed, and moisturized. Our skin is also a natural barrier that holds moisture in, keeps us from receiving so many harmful UV rays, and keeps us young-looking. We also have a very beneficial layer of fat below our skin to maintain it full and healthy.
The problem is what starts to happen when this fantastic system of skin rejuvenation gets less and less effective with the passing of time, and we begin to lose that needed layer of fat. Our skin renewal system stops being so effective for a variety of reasons. Many of them are brought on by the decisions we make every day, most of which are inevitable such as walking through a stress-filled mall or exposing ourselves to the sun when we walk to the car. Another example of our bodies’ ability or inability to withstand deterioration has to do with genetics. If looking at your family tree shows you that your family has the tendency to look 10 years younger than they are, there’s a pretty strong chance that you will too.
However, there are some factors you can control yourself. For example, a significant detriment to your skin is cigarette smoke, so try to stop smoking if you do. Another huge problem that most people wouldn’t imagine is stress. Stress has been proven to cause the facial muscles to tighten up and cause lines to appear between your eyes, on your cheeks, etc. So it seems that to avoid wrinkles we should take heed to that silly advice of our childhood and not frown so much! And as you know, always wear sunscreen.
Wrinkles - Is it too late?
Maybe you’re thinking to yourself! this is all great but I already have wrinkles. What can I do? First of all, if you are just starting to see a some wrinkles, and you are worried about premature skin aging, begin to follow the suggestions I mentioned in the last paragraph, because more than likely, you can prevent your wrinkles from getting so bad. The other thing you could do is try an all natural anti-aging shield, which come in the form of a natural anti wrinkle cream that you apply to your face to help the skin in its job of retaining moisture, fatty tissue, and nutrients. One of the most important ingredients to try to find in this anti wrinkle cream or anti aging wrinkle cream is the serum from land snails, which has been proven by scientists to naturally regenerate skin cells and regain moisture in our skin, similarly to how it does for the snail. You can’t lose anything by following this advice, and I guarantee you that within a couple of months you will begin to see a very big difference!
