What Is Bacon and Why Is It Popular?
Bacon is deemed to be one of the tastiest foods in Western society. There are numerous sites devoted to this topic. There are even fan clubs. Astonishingly, there are actually Bacon shoes (they are not really made out of Bacon but are rather designed to seem as if they have been - do a query if you do not believe me).
This, perhaps unexpected appeal, makes me intrigued. Who invented bacon? How to cook bacon? Can you microwave bacon? How to make bacon? Can we do this ourselves? Which are the best bacon recipes? Is Bacon Healthy? Why do people love it so much?
Fortunately, the internet has a wealth of resources for such information. A quick query shows that Bacon is simply cured meat that is made from various parts of a pig. There are numerous types of bacon which come from different sections of the pig (its belly, its side, its loins, its shoulder and even its cheeks). Additionally, there are countless ways of preparing it: it can be baked, boiled, grilled, fried, smoked, used as a ingredient in a salad and in many other methods. Indeed, bacon can most definitely be microwaved (i.e. using a microwave bacon cooker), and this is a thing people can do on their own.
Since Bacon is prepared from pork (although in certain countries, non-pork based bacon-like foods are also referred to as bacon, which is in my humble opinion basically does not count), is actually forbidden for consumption for followers of Judaism and Islam. Judaism considers pigs as ‘dirty’ or ‘tainted’ creatures and as such, all meats made from their flesh are not allowed.
