Buying Cars Privately
When you are thinking of buying a car from a private seller you need to make sure you are not going to be scammed. Firstly there can be all manner of problems with the car itself, so if you are going to go and view the car make sure you go and see it at the home address of the seller, rather than in a public location like a car park. This can be a way for untrustworthy sellers to maintain anonymity. In addition you should try and take a mechanic or friend who is knowledgeable about cars, someone who will be able to spot some of the most common problems. If you have a name or cell number for the seller you can run a reverse phone number lookup online to check who they are, and if the name and details differ from the ones you have been given - a definite red flag.
