Could It Be Scabies?
Can’t stop itching? It could be scabies. Scabies is caused by tiny bugs (mites) that inflame your skin from underneath. As the itching is even more terrible at night, sleep patterns suffer and the individual is steadily beat. The diagnosis is confirmed by inspecting the mite under a magnifying glass after removing it from the skin. The good news is that the right anti-itch lotion is all that you need to get rid of the mites usually.
The mites that cause the scabies rash are really miniscule and lay their eggs underneath your skin by burrowing and making a tunnel to use for this reason. Female mites die after laying eggs but once the eggs hatch the larvae eat their way to your skin’s surface. As the larvae grows you are contagious.
Scabies is typically spread by private contact. Sharing a bed is a common way to spread scabies. The entire cycle, from eggs to the maturation of fresh mites, takes about 2 weeks.
The first signs usually appear on the hands and wrists and sometimes on the elbows, feet, ankles, genital areas, and nipples. You can identify a mite burrow by the thin reddish-brown lines on the skin.
Benzyl benzoate and Gamma Benzene Hexachloride lotions are the common treatment. The cream kills the mites on the surface of the skin and the symptoms start to fade.
Complications from scabies include additional bacterial skin infections from scratching
