Reasons for Nighttime Snoring
Some people do not know the difference between snoring and sleep apnea. The human body is built in lots of different forms. Heavier people tend to have more thick tissues in the throat which block the air passageway. This constriction of the passageway can also be felt by someone who has a large soft palate. There are also other reasons that can cause snoring like: large tonsils, a long tongue, large adenoids, a deviated nasal septum, and a tiny lower jaw. For these men and women, the chance of developing snoring problems is very much increased.
Things like smoking and asthma will also increase the chances of having a snoring issue.
The way you angle your body during the night is also a factor. When gravity draws the tongue and jaw down to the rear of the mouth due to sleeping on one’s back, the passageway becomes smaller and thus, can lead to snoring. Using devices like stop snoring mouthpieces can help.
